How can we reprogram the subconscious mind? A Hindu Priest shares some great insights.

The subconscious mind is akin to that unseen portion of an iceberg which remains underwater. Some believe that up to 95% of our mental activity takes place in the subconscious, just below our conscious awareness. This ‘underwater’ portion of the mind is never inactive, though, as it continues to collect and process information even when we are asleep.

According to the Freudian model of the unconscious, the contents of the subregions of the mind are the primary guiding influence on a person’s behavior, habits and urges. And in his study of the psyche, revered psychoanalyst Carl Jung relates the importance of paying attention to what is going on in the lower parts of the mind, saying, “until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

Freudian model of the subconscious mind

While this model may be debatable to some scientists, sages and those devoted to personal development have long known that these regions of the mind are programmable with conscious intention, a process which can be achieved with affirmation and mantra.

As a spiritual tool, monks of the eastern traditions have been using mantras since time immemorial, most recognizably along with prayer beads. The value of this type of meditation is well-understood by practitioners, although, difficult to quantify. It offers a simple but powerful means of creating the emergence of desired positive outcomes in personality, habits, beliefs and emotions.

“Mantra is really just a specialized grouping of sounds and vibrations which positively affect the mental and physiological planes. The effects of sound on the brain have been demonstrated in Electro Encephala Graph (EEG) charts as well as by documented physical changes (skin temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate among them). While we may consciously want to remove certain thought patterns, they can be difficult to dislodge because they are formed at subconscious levels. This is where mantra can be very effective.” ~Christina Sarich

Speaking on how this process works, Hindu priest and international speaker Dandapāni explains how mantras are similar to affirmations in how they work to reprogram the subconscious mind. In an interview with Brian Rose of London Real, Dandapāni answers the question of why the simple concentrated repetition of sound can so powerfully brings about positive changes in personal behavior.

“You can say they are prayer beads, but they’re actually more like affirmation or mantra beads. So, we use these to actually program our subconscious. So as we chant on each bead, we chant an affirmation. I am happy, or I’m confident. And we repeat the same chant over and over again, and there are 108 beads… one chant over and over again.”

There is more to it than just saying a phrase 108 times, however, and as he explains, three ingredients are necessary: “Concise choice of positive words, clear visualization, and a corresponding feeling.”

The process of visualization is extremely important in clarifying for the mind the precise object in focus. If you were to chant, ‘I love apples,’ the brain would become confused by the word apple, however, unless a very clear picture of the apple is presented along with the mantra.

Regarding a corresponding feeling, he explains how feeling is emotion and emotion is energy, quoting the late Nikola Tesla.

“He [Tesla] had this beautiful saying which kind of encapsulates Hindu philosophy really well. He said that, ‘to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.’ Everything is made up of energy that’s vibrating at its own frequency. What we believe is that if your subconscious is filled with patterns that are vibrating at a certain frequency… and if you can go into your subconscious and create a pattern, infuse it with energy that’s vibrating at a certain frequency, you can attract things of a similar nature to it.”

The combined effect of intentionally applying sound, visualization and emotion to create positive change can override the contents of the subconscious mind. He elaborates further in the video below:

If you are feeling bad, it’s time to learn how to raise your frequency and start feeling better.

When you encounter a negative feeling, it is easy to respond with more negativity. You do not want to feel bad, hence you resist feeling bad.  The result is that you feel even more bad, and if you still resist it, you are starting a downward spiral. You want to keep your frequency up there in a vibratory state that makes you feel powerful and loved, ecstatic and creative.

What makes for a great, expansive feeling, and what makes for a bad, contractive feeling?

A belief system that is in alignment with what your higher self is true will feel great and expansive, while a belief that is not in alignment with that truth will feel contractive. This is your very own guidance system to let you know if you are out of alignment with your eternal, true purpose.

This is a way of defining good and bad feelings (they are ultimately two sides of the same coin) that will have you regain control and step out of any victim mentality you may have. Circumstances does not make you feel good or bad, only your reaction to them ever can.

Every situation, thought or circumstance is inherently neutral. It is your point of view when reacting to the situation that generates either a feeling of ecstatic expansion or contraction.

There is always something to learn when you feel bad. It is an opportunity to grow, to expand, to accelerate into new points of view – opening up more of yourself and your energy to be used for expansive activities rather than victimizing yourself. (Click here to learn to recognize in what ways your victim thinking may be benefiting you in the short-term and how to overcome it).

It can be hard to see that you are always in control of your state of being, and that no-one else or whatever they may do to you, can take away from you your power or choice to feel amazing. Unless you let them, by choice. Does it feel good to give away your power, and let it be up to the actions of others whether or not you can feel great? From an empowerment perspective (no more victim-state), no. It feels good to think that you are in control of your state of being, that you have free will, because it is true.

1. Dive as Deep as You Can into Your Self-Realization

The first method to keep your frequency high is the most essential one. When all else fails, turn to this one. It is simply a way to deepen your self-realization by paying attention to the fact that you exist. In fact, if you constantly remind yourself that you exist, that you are alive, that you are here, now, conscious, you will be able to go deeper and further into your existence, as Awareness. (It is also possible to go even deeper, beyond experience and Awareness and back into the Absolute, or Infinity).

By remembering that you exist, that you are here and now, conscious of yourself, you will be able to relax all thought activity and take your focus back to your roots, giving yourself a reboot.

2. Imagine Whatever Makes You Feel Best

Your imagination is a very powerful tool to raise your frequency. Instead of imagining worst case-scenarios or use it for worrying about this and that, why not try to create blissful and ecstatic states of being? You can imagine yourself, as a human being, together with other human beings, in certain situations, doing specific things, or you can keep it more undefined and abstract. As long as you find the feeling of alignment and joy that you are looking for, it is of less importance exactly what you are imagining.

By using your imagination in this way you are creating states of being in the non-physical, which is just as real as the physical. You instantly feel a psychological relief and perhaps even feel good in your physical body. Instant manifestation. You manifest all of your external reality from your internal state of being. The more you accept this as a fact, and take responsibility for your reality, the more empowered you become. And the more you take control of your imagination and power as a creator to experience any state of being you choose, the easier and more effortless it becomes.

Keep your state of being joyful, keep your frequency high, and know that you are in absolute control of your vibrational state.

Several different ways of saying this (that resonate with you), will allow you to see it from several points of view and make it easier to integrate into your life.

3. Be Grateful for Feeling Bad

Whenever you notice that you are in a negative state of being, be joyful. You see that you feel bad. Great! Now, at least, you can do something about it.

Don’ resist it. Observe it, accept it and be grateful that you see it and don’t have to keep holding on to it.

Remember that the negative state of being is a signal from a higher self (or whatever you wish to call the version of you who sees from an all-seeing perspective) that you have a belief that is out of alignment with what it knows to be true. Just redefining feeling bad as this signal can be enough to raise your frequency right back up. You are loved and watched out for! By this higher self, God, the universe etc. What you call it is not the point here. When you feel bad, there is something for you to learn. The Universe is showing you that there is a lesson to be learned in order for you to keep expanding, so be grateful.

4. Use Reminders

Use reminders, as many as you can, to help you get back into a high frequency. Do things that trigger you to be in a peaceful state of being. Watch a video, read a blog article, read a book, hang out with friends, go shopping. Only you know what can serve as a reminder for you to tune into higher frequencies.

Fill your life with whatever makes you feel amazingly connected to who you really are.

Be honest to what truly serves and excites you, and you will see more and more blissful states of being manifest in your life.

Wrapping it up

The information here may seem radical to some people. The terms may be unfamiliar and the content thought provoking. Let it sink in, use other resources, integrate what you learn. Take only what feels right on some level. Let go of the rest.

Wrapping it up, serving it, eating it – Mmm, Yummy! – digesting it and utilizing all the useful bits and pieces… And defecating the waste.

Now you hopefully have some new inspiration and methods you can experiment with to create great states of being. You can dive into self-realization to snap out of a downward spiral and into deep understandings of your true nature; you can use your imagination to create increasingly more blissful states of being; you can redefine feeling bad as a signal for you to learn and feel great through expansion; you can fill your life with reminders that keep you vibrant with joy; or you can do all of the above.

Do you want to be more productive? In this article you will find out what highly productive people do differently and enjoy life to the fullest.

No matter what numerous roles you have in life, and what your profession is, the daunting task of becoming more productive usually inspires images of the Shiva goddess with her four hands, because how else would you manage to do more in the same amount of time, when you are undoubtedly already doing your best?

However, there are mere mortals around you who seem to get everything done in a fraction of the time it takes you, with a rich social life and a soaring career. Let’s take a look at some of the traits they share and that you can start nurturing in your own mindset in order to become more productive and enjoy your life to the fullest!

1. Take the reins of your life

Instead of leaving your decision to others and allowing everybody else to guide you, be your own Northern Star, and your key decision-maker. It all starts with having enough faith in yourself to make all those calls and acknowledge the power you have over your own life journey.

2. Stop the unhealthy comparison

Highly successful and productive people only overcome their own limitations and aim to become better in comparison to their previous actions and beliefs, and not to others and their achievements. By comparing you with you, there’s a greater likelihood of progress and you will be able to build high self-esteem and grow your confidence.

3. Start goal-setting and problem-solving

An important skill is your ability to set short, mid and long-term goals, decide on milestones, measuring your progress and focus on ways to overcome obstacles and find solutions to problems. This is one of the key qualities of people who take action, enjoy challenges and perceive every problem as an opportunity to grow and advance.

4. Practice visualization and meditation

By incorporating meditation and visualization into your daily life, you will be able to tap into cognitive and emotional abilities you never knew existed. You will increase your focus, emotional stability, and mental acuity, among many other important abilities, while visualizing your goals will guide you towards them, empowered by positive thoughts.

Just like the awareness of the big picture is an important perspective to have in life, it’s equally essential to be able to anchor yourself into the present moment, clear your mind, and let go of negative thought patterns.

5. Stay realistic

Having faith in yourself is one thing, but getting carried away and losing your head in the clouds over a possibility is completely another. Highly productive people know how to stay firmly on the ground while keeping their confidence and self-esteem intact.

Staying realistic means that even the negative events in your life have meaning, and you know how to use them to advance, without losing your enthusiasm for achieving your goals.

6. Be an early bird

Not only is it important to start your day early, but also to have a healthy sleeping pattern, from going to bed at a reasonable hour, to rising after eight hours of quality sleep. Productive people know how to balance their daily responsibilities without resorting to late-night work or study sessions.

Sleep deprivation is a major cause of cognitive dysfunction, immune system problems, among many other issues, so it’s essential to sleep well in order to stay sharp.

7. Be health-conscious

A healthy life is based on numerous healthy habits, such as rising early, balanced nutrition, physical activity and stress-reducing techniques. Little things such as starting your morning with a freshly squeezed lemon in lukewarm water, packed and ready fitness clothes for your workout, a prepared meal and a bottle of water will help you build a healthy routine.

Taking care of your health should not be a chore, but a foundation of a healthy lifestyle which is an important segment that promotes your productivity and fulfillment.

8. Surround yourself with inspiration

If you take control of your life and spend time immersed in positive meditation, you are bound to attract like-minded people and things that will inspire you to advance in life. Steer clear of those who deplete your energy levels and surround yourself with those who support you and share a similar mindset.

9. Always learn

Once you start perceiving everything as a lesson as opposed to a failure or success, you will be able to move forward at a quicker pace, viewing everything as a learning opportunity. Learning by doing and not being afraid of uncharted territories will help you leave your comfort zone, which is where the most important lessons are learned.

Do you want to ask the universe for something you want and you haven’t find a way that works for you yet?

The law of attraction is one of the most powerful laws of this Universe. It works on the principle that like attracts like. This means that you attract into your reality experiences, events and people that are aligned with your energy and vibration.

Everyone and every experience that comes into your life is a teacher in some way that is being drawn to you at your current state of consciousness.

If we believe this to be true, then we can also actively change our energy and our vibration in order to attract a different set of experiences or opportunities into our lives.

When we uplift our energy and our level of consciousness, our external environment mirrors the same and our energy starts to attract a new set of experiences.

Because we are co-creators of our destiny, we also have the power to create and manifest events in our lives as well. We can send our requests out into the Universe, almost like we are casting a wish and watching it return to us.

If you are looking to manifest or create an event in your life, whether it is attracting a new lover, money, a new job or simply a peaceful resolution to a situation, here is how to do it:

1. Develop a Relationship with the Universe

If you are new to the law of attraction and the inner workings of the Universe, it may be beneficial to start developing a relationship so you can see first hand how the Universe operates.

It is all very well for someone to tell you that “like attracts like” but until you start to see it in operation, it can be difficult to understand.

To start developing your relationship with the Universe, you have to first believe in its power and see the miracles it can create. Perhaps start on a small level first such as asking the Universe for a sign.

2. Set Your Intention

Just because you ask for something, doesn’t mean you are going to receive it exactly as you intended. This is especially true if what you are asking for comes from a place of ego or there is resistance and blocks surrounding what you are asking for.

Before you ask the Universe for what you want, you first have to get clear with your heart and really tune in to what your heart desires.

Once you have set your intention and have become clear on what you want, it makes it a lot easier to attract it into your life.

3. Visualize

With your intention in your heart, close your eyes and begin to visualize the receiving of your intention. Visualize what it may look like, what it feels like and any other details that are necessary.

Allow yourself to get taken away by the feelings you are experiencing. Really feel all the emotions that come with having your request answered. The more feelings you can conjure up, the more powerful your request will be.

4. Thank You and Ask

Once you are sitting in that feeling place and your emotions about what you want are bubbling over, it is time to ask the Universe.

Start with “Thank You” as this allows you to ask with the intention that your request is already being received by the Universe.

Example: “Thank you Universe for giving/bringing/opening me to…..”

5. Release and Open

Once you have asked for your wish, you need to release and surrender all control to the Universe. You cannot micromanage the delivery or in’s and out’s of your wish. The “how” is up to the Universe, so surrender all attachments to your wish and remain open minded about how your wish will be delivered.

In fact, the more open minded you can stay, the easier it will be for you to recognize the Universe’s magic at work.

6. Trust in Divine Timing

Another law of the Universe that is important to understand here is Divine Timing. Whatever you have asked for will come your way when the perfect timing presents itself.

You have to trust that once you have sent your wish out into the Universe that it will be received back to you in perfect timing.

After casting your wish, keep trusting the process and holding the emotional feeling strong in your heart. After all, what you want is less about the object or the person and more about the feeling that it creates.

All top performers, regardless of profession, know the importance of picturing themselves succeeding in their minds before they actually do in reality.

Something I have been able to translate over to the business arena from athletics is the power of visualization. It is extremely effective when harnessed and used correctly.

Every Friday night after our team dinner, my college teammates and I would gather in the hotel conference room to prep for our game on Saturday.

We were led through a series of visualization techniques and practices led by a sports psychologist. Right away, I started to experience the incredible benefits of taking the time to picture myself succeeding before actually playing in the game. I visualized every little detail, from walking into the locker room, tying my cleats and having conversations with my teammates and coaches.

I would picture myself having the “perfect” game, executing the defensive game plan and making big plays. The more vivid I was, the better I seemed to play. I couldn’t believe it. Before the game even started, I had already played the entire game in my mind. This made a tremendous difference because it greatly increased my confidence and comfort level.

In turn, I have been able to harness the power of visualization outside of athletics. Before I take the stage and speak to a large audience, I always picture myself giving the “perfect” speech. I begin weeks in advance by picturing the audience, my choice of words and the reaction from the crowd once I am finished. Visualization can be applied to any area of your life, as I know it has become very beneficial throughout mine.

Consider these three examples:

  • Boxing legend Muhammad Ali was always stressing the importance of seeing himself victorious long before the actual fight.
  • As a struggling young actor, Jim Carrey used to picture himself being the greatest actor in the world.
  • Michael Jordan always took the last shot in his mind before he ever took one in real life.

These top performers, among many others, have mastered the technique of positive visualization and openly credit it as a success tactic.

When you think of a big goal or dream that you want to achieve, it’s natural to think of all of the obstacles that will come your way. The problem is far too often we allow these obstacles to become so big in our minds that it inhibits us from moving forward. This is when many become satisfied with mediocrity.

Don’t let this be you. Rather than creating larger-than-life barriers in your mind and dwelling on everything that will hold you back, envision yourself victorious like Ali. Picture yourself as the greatest at your craft like Carrey. Visualize your next shot as your winning shot like MJ.

What will it take? What sacrifices will you make? How can you handle any obstacles and still have enough to make it to the finish line? The key is to make your positive vision stronger than anything that can set you back.

The truth is, if you can’t picture yourself achieving a goal, chances are you won’t. The more vivid you can get, the better it will work for you. Start thinking of your personal goals in life. Spend about 10 to 15 minutes picturing yourself achieving each one.

Get as detailed as possible. Picture what you will do once your goal is reached. How amazing does it feel? How will this change the course of your life? Remember, the little details increase the likelihood of the big picture.

You don’t need to spend endless hours. Simply get in the habit of putting together a positive vision into your everyday life. Visualize yourself succeeding, achieving every goal, completing every task. See what it does for you and how it makes you feel. This will likely become a pivotal part of your success arsenal.

The bottom line is this: If you can’t  picture yourself in your own mind being extremely successful, dominating your market, and running a phenomenal business, then chances are you never will.
